A family member said he had battled COVID-19 and pneumonia in recent weeks. York Daily Record Years ago, when both men were live-ins at the station on Davidsburg Road, Laughman baked the crew a cake. Widmayer, known for his perpetual smile, thought it would be funny to take the first piece from the center, Laughman said Wednesday. It got me fired up, said Laughman, now chief at West Manchester Township Fire Department. He filled the center up with Tootsie Rolls and covered it over with icing to make me think he made a whole new cake. There was a dichotomy to Widmayer, many recalled on Wednesday he was a fun-loving guy, but he was serious when it came to supporting his fellow firefighters and the community.
