Apple Hill Players find home at Theatre Factory in Trafford

The theater company left without a home after last year’s closing of Apple Hill Playhouse in Delmont has found new boards to tread. The Apple Hill Players will share space in The Theatre Factory in Trafford, which is being re-branded as Trafford Performing Arts Center. The resident players there will continue to mount productions under The Theatre Factory name, while Apple Hill will do the same. The two groups also will combine for joint productions, children’s theater offerings and classes.

The single, The End of the Road, is part of a series of three ‘anthems’ for the town that have been created thanks to funding from the Arts Council England. Rachel Ashton, artistic director for Abbey Road-based arts centre Theatre Factory, secured the grant which was created to help the struggling arts sector after the pandemic. She said: “The track has been created as an anthem to represent the resilience that the town has shown throughout the pandemic, especially the youth.” The duo worked with Walney Youth Group on the track. Smaller casts due to social distancing. Moving performances outdoors. But this summer there’s something else the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey expects to face as well: cicadas. In a few weeks, billions of cicadas from Brood X are expected to go from quietly feeding on roots underground to emerging on the surface throughout the country, including in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Residents will notice their presence arriving for the first time in 17 years by a distinctive shrill they emit to draw mates.
