EAST Lothian’s coronavirus figures continue on their steady decline and sit slightly over 100 per 100,000 people, their lowest in over a month. The latest figures from Public Health Scotland today (Thursday) show that between January 5 and 11, 117 positive cases of coronavirus were recorded in East Lothian and the seven-day positive rate per 100,00 of the population was 109.3. The last time figures in the county were anywhere near that level was the first week of December (December 1-7), when 108 positive cases of coronavirus were recorded and the seven-day rate per 100,000 people was sitting at 100.8. These are once again lower than the figures announced yesterday (Wednesday), when 130 cases were recorded and the seven-day rate per 100,000 people was sitting at 121.4.

AS THE number of people in hospital and intensive care continues to rise across Scotland, and the number of deaths among those who have previously tested positive passes 5,000, the number of positive cases in East Lothian continues to fall and remains in the five lowest in Scotland. Today (Tuesday), for the period between January 3 and 9, there were 142 positive cases recorded and the seven-day positive rate per 100,000 people was sitting at 132.6. This is fewer than the 157 cases and seven-day positive rate per 100,000 people of 146.6 reported yesterday (Monday). This decrease means that the county’s figures remain the lowest in the Lothian health board area and the fifth lowest in Scotland.

THERE might have been a rise in East Lothian’s coronavirus figures today (Thursday) but they remain the sixth lowest Scotland and the county is one of only seven local authorities in Scotland with a seven-day rate per 100,000 of the population of below 200. The most recent data from Public Health Scotland shows that between December 29 and January 4, 161 cases were recorded in East Lothian and the seven-day rate per 100,000 of the population was sitting at 150.3. This is slightly higher than the 155 cases and seven-day rate of 144.7 reported yesterday (Wednesday). However, they remain the lowest in the Lothian healthboard area. By comparison, Edinburgh’s seven-day positive rate is sitting at 237.2, Midlothian’s at 209.8 and West Lothian’s at 179.1.
