Bills GM Beane: Not 'ideal' to pick up 5th-year options for Allen, Edmunds without extensions

Copied! The Buffalo Bills must exercise the fifth-year options for 2018 first-round picks Josh Allen and Tremaine Edmunds by the May 3rd deadline. Both key members of the Bills playoff team, it should be a no-brainer for Buffalo to pick up the options. A change in the collective bargaining agreement makes the fifth year guaranteed the moment it is exercised. In the previous CBA, the options were guaranteed for injury only. As Buffalo GM Brandon Beane explained on Tuesday, the Bills utilizing the fifth-year options on Allen and Edmunds would hopefully be placeholders as a prelude to extensions for one or both of their key starters. The salary-cap implications of keeping both players on the fifth-year option in a 2022 year that could still see the cap not leap exponentially would be tough to maneuver.

Denver Broncos Lessons Learned From 3 Teams Trading Up to in 2017 & 2018 to Land a QB - Sports Illustrated Mile High Huddle: Denver Broncos News, Analysis and More

Apr 9, 2021 In 2017, an NFL team that was in need of an upgrade at quarterback was in position to get one in a class that had potential but didn t turn heads. Another team, a playoff contender at that, but one that some would say needed an upgrade at QB, saw a prospect it liked and made a deal with the first team to go get him. The first team thought the 2018 class was going to have better prospects, so it passed on the 2017 class. That team, in evaluating the 2018 class, narrowed its search down to a prospect that some had their doubts about. That team made a couple of moves to eventually land that prospect.

Buffalo Bills' NFL draft strategy: Play it safe or swing for the fences?

BUFFALO, N.Y. The Buffalo Bills own the No. 30 pick in the 2021 NFL draft unfamiliar territory for a team fresh off its first AFC Championship Game appearance since 1993. They aren t picking at the end of the first round because they traded down with a contender; they re there because they are the contender. Looking at the Bills roster, which general manager Brandon Beane has kept largely intact this offseason, there aren t any major holes as much as there are areas for improvement. Because of that, Buffalo can follow a number of different paths when the draft begins April 29 in Cleveland (ESPN and ESPN the App) it can make the safe move, pull off a trade or try for a home run.
