Rookie phenom Jalen Johnson scored the Blue Devils’ first five points of the afternoon, all in the paint including a +1.
Knowing he’d come off the bench in Duke’s last outing at Pitt, and put up 24 and 15, I jotted this knee jerk musing in my game notes. “Hold it to just Johnson, Win Game.”
Kind of like, “I don’t need no head of Alfredo Garcia, just bring me the rest of his stinkin’ gang.”
Will I never learn?
So, of course, he only tallies four the rest of the game, gives it away six times, only grabs 4 rebounds, and spends as much time on the pine as between the lines.

Let’s hop right in. I think we have to start this post by talking about Samuell Williamson, who has easily (and justifiably) been the most heavily criticized Cardinal through the first two months of the season. That criticism reached an apex after last week’s game against Virginia Tech, where Williamson’s lackluster play (and effort, according to his head coach) resulted in him watching from the bench as Quinn Slazinski took his spot for all of the game’s most crucial moments.

(Opening Statement)
The game tonight was - give Wake Forest a lot of credit. Every time we would get, whether it’s a 12, 14. 16-point lead, they would make some plays, they would get a little juice, and they would respond. I think that it’s very evident at times that we have a very young team that will give up a couple easy ones and allow somebody to get back in the game. That’s taking nothing away from Wake Forest, as I said, I thought they made some plays. We had just 10 turnovers on a team that was, I think, one of the leaders in our league of turning people over. A few of those were at the end. But, you know, Wake Forest is playing hard, and they’re competing. We got in foul trouble with David (Johnson) and Jae’Lyn (Withers) and it changed the complexity of the game. We had four guys cramp.
