There was a time when Carnival Cruise Line was the biggest cruise line in the world, when measured by the passenger capacity of its ships. But in recent years, it has lost that title to rival Royal Caribbean, as the latter line has added ever more and bigger ships.
Now Carnival is in danger of slipping to the No. 3 spot among the world’s biggest cruise lines.
Carnival Breaks Ground on New Miami Cruise Terminal

Carnival Cruise Line on Friday broke ground on its new cruise terminal at PortMiami, a terminal that is set to welcome visitors when Carnival Celebration debuts in 2022.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Carnival president Christine Duffy, along with county commissioners and construction partners, were on hand to mark the occasion on Friday, celebrating the start of construction of Carnival’s third and largest terminal at PortMiami.
The 471,000-square-foot terminal will be able to accommodate the new class of Carnival ships, its Excel-class, which will include Carnival Celebration and Carnival Mardi Gras.

Carnival Cruise Line and PortMiami have held a ground-breaking ceremony for the expansion of the state-of-the-art Terminal F.
The facility will eventually serve as the homeport of Carnival Celebration, the next Excel-class ship from the line.
Currently under construction in Finland, the ship is set to debut next year.
