Q: Max, well done, what a lap. After Q2 we thought no one would break into the 16s. You nearly had it there, only three hundredths. How was your lap?
Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah, it was good. I struggled a little bit in Q1 but I think then we sorted out the balance for Q2, which was pretty good. In Q3 for me both laps were pretty decent. I think only the second run was a little not worse for whatever reason. It s quite dusty around here so the wind changes a lot. Nevertheless I think second for us here on this track was very good today. We know that they are hard to beat around here, so to be that close we have to be happy with that.

The guys at Chrysler have been telling us they were going to do it. In fact, they ve been telling everyone within earshot, from congressmen to Wall Street bankers, that the new G24 sports coupe would stop the heart of the American car enthusiast. And now, months later, after one of the most well-orchestrated examples of pre-production tub-thumping seen in the car business in recent years, it appears the Chrysler guys are right. They ve done it: the G24 is so hot it will scorch your throttle foot. This new sport coupe is the first bona-fide all-American front-wheel-drive muscle car.

One of Lewis Hamilton s greatest drives stole victory from Max Verstappen and Red Bull at the first race of the season. Now a special lap, as the Mercedes driver put it, has deprived his team s rivals of pole position at the second.
That s one way of looking at it, anyway. Another is that Red Bull let victory at Bahrain slip after being out-foxed on strategy, and that Verstappen would be starting from pole at Imola had he not run wide on his final qualifying lap.

more overtaking opportunities at this November’s Formula One race after the Albert Park street circuit receives its first major overhaul in 25 years.
Lap times are forecast to be
slashed by up to five seconds, according to initial estimates, after seven corners on the 5.3km track are modified – and two are removed.
A
complete resurfacing of the circuit – the first since it was constructed in 1995 – will be undertaken
after the November 2021 race (the third-last event on this year F1 GP calendar, rather than the season opener as it has historically been) to enable the surface to cure properly in the warmer months ahead of the 2022 season.
