A VILLAGER says she is “ecstatic” after fellow residents gave her the go-ahead in a referendum to maintain a grass verge. A public meeting was held two years ago when Irene Fowler first put forward her proposal to see to the upkeep of the overgrown verge, in Race Moor Lane, Oakworth. There were some objections to the plan, particularly around the idea of including a bench – which sparked fears over anti-social behaviour and loss of privacy. The bench idea has since been dropped. In a bid to end wrangling, villagers living within around 100 metres of the verge – which is owned by Bradford Council – were balloted.
