At least one person dies every year drowning in a pond in Eroor
The drowning of a 12-year-old in a public pond in south Eroor had an air of inevitability considering the number of lives claimed by that particular waterbody every year owing to the misplaced adventurism of ignorant youngsters.
The latest tragedy comes hardly a year after another teenager from Udayamperoor had drowned in the pond on March 13 last year. Like in the latest incident, he had also come with a friend and ventured into the water to swim and on both occasions, the friends on the banks were left helpless spectators and emotionally scarred forever.

Fronts not in a hurry to finalise names as election of civic body heads will take place only after December 28
Both the major political fronts have kick-started unofficial discussions on potential candidates to head the councils where they have managed simple majority, though neither is in a hurry, since the election of chairpersons is not expected before December 28.
At last count, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) has won Eloor, Thripunithura, Piravom, Kothamangalam and Koothattukulam municipalities decisively, while the United Democratic Front (UDF) has Maradu, North Paravur, Angamaly and Aluva municipalities in their kitty.

Independents make significant gains, assuming the role of kingmakers
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) suffered significant setbacks in elections to the 13 municipalities in the district, as it could manage to retain only half of the six municipalities they held, while the tally of the United Democratic Front (UDF) rose by three and reached 10 compared to the previous elections.
The LDF was voted out in Angamaly, Thrikkakara and Muzattupuzha municipalities and could retain only Koothattukulam, Eloor, and Thripunithura. However, the front could muster simple majority in none of those municipalities and will be dependent on others to secure power.
