Britain faces calls to approve Oxford University s coronavirus vaccine as soon as possible

The NHS has vaccinated 500,000 people against Covid-19 since the programme started on December 8, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said today. Speaking in a news conference from Downing Street, Mr Johnson said: I can today announce that over half a million people, more than 500,000 people in the UK, have now received their first dose. The Department of Health is expected to start publishing detailed statistics this week to reveal the ages and locations of people who are being given the vaccine. And the Prime Minister said there were no plans to direct more vaccines to London and the South East because Covid is spreading faster there, insisting that officials would stick with the original plan of prioritising people by age.
