“Only in the movies & Memphis” is a quote that OG Grizzlies fans will always tie to late Grizzlies announcer Don Poier. That quote has kept a relevant place in the lore of the Memphis Grizzlies because - to an extent - it’s true. One of the best tropes of movies and the entertainment industry is the redemption arc.
Magneto. Loki. Negan. Theon Greyjoy and Jaime Lannister. Anakin Skywalker. The impact of these characters and the pull they have over fans long after their arcs end is due in part to the complexity of the characters. While it is easy for roles within the industry to be “larger than life,” the humanizing aspect of these characters evolving from past mistakes to become cult favorites makes for some of the best entertainment. The Grizzlies have had their share of these “redemption arcs” in the past

We almost got the Jaren Jackson Jr. season debut. The Grizzlies’ big man was listed as “doubtful” for the first time this season, leading to speculation tonight would be his debut with little regard for the actual definition of “doubtful.”
Meanwhile, the revolving door of injuries continued to be in full swing. De’Anthony Melton, Justise Winslow, and Brandon Clarke made their returns to the rotation. However, Dillon Brooks (thigh soreness) and Jonas Valanciunas (concussion protocol) sat out in this one.

All of Nate Bjorkgren’s G League teams had one specific trait in common. Across four stops, none of his squads ranked lower than fifth in pace. Inside the G League bubble in Orlando, Fort Wayne carried on that same tradition, coming in at fourth while running the same playbook as the Pacers. And yet, despite the obvious similarities in system between affiliate and parent club, the Pacers at the point in which the Mad Ants kicked off their season on February 10 sat in 15th, racking up only a slight increase in pace (100.1) over last season (99.4). To be fair, the G League as a whole tends to run smaller and faster from a team standpoint than the NBA, and personnel differences clearly matter, but that’s also sort of the point, at least as it pertains to Indiana’s recent commitment to running.

The Memphis Grizzlies started the road trip with a trip to Chicago against the Bulls, who were without All-Star Zach LaVine. Meanwhile, Brandon Clarke joined Jaren Jackson Jr., Justise Winslow, and De’Anthony Melton on the injury report.
Could they start the 7-game business trip with a win?
First Quarter
There wasn’t a lot of defense in the first quarter, as both teams were really able to get whatever they wanted offensively.
Dillon Brooks helped get the team going with 8 quick points. The real standout though was Xavier Tillman. He had 9 first-quarter points and made a ton of great plays that flashed his potential. On one possession, he swatted a shot then finished a fast break lineup. Then, he drilled a 3 later, and he also got an easy lay-in off a steal.
