(Sean Flynn/UConn Photo) Copy Link As UConn adjusted over the past year to strict measures to guard against the spread of COVID-19 on its campuses, it faced another challenge: how to keep students engaged in University life and connected with each other, but in ways that didn’t compromise their health and safety. With input from groups throughout the University, its Division of Student Affairs last summer launched a central site and initiative, known as uKindness. It allows students from all campuses to check for online activities or events that are outdoors and/or socially distanced, along with providing mental health resources and other helpful information.

Luke Hajdasz

Luke Hajdasz Title: Reporter Luke is a native New Englander. He spent his entire life in Connecticut, where he grew up and later went on to pursue a journalism degree at the University of Connecticut. He graduated in December 2020. While at UConn, Luke worked as a Staff Writer at The Daily Campus, the largest daily-published college newspaper in the state. He also served as a multimedia journalist and later as News Director at UCTV, the university’s on-campus, student-run TV station. In June 2020, Luke won the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists College Contest for video storytelling for his feature on the UConn Fire Department. He also attended and reported on the Edward R. Murrow awards banquet in New York City, one of the most prestigious awards in broadcast journalism.

Shawn Smith is a neurodiversity advocate and consultant and the founder of the educational campaign, “Don’t Dis-My-Ability.” He talked about society’s stigmatization of those who are neurodiverse and how this impacted his educational experience growing up.  This episode was produced by Kate Ariano and hosted by Jonathan Kopeliovich.
