Nine years after Kasey Balchin and her dad Andrew made the front page of the Daily Mercury for taking part in Mackay’s Labour Day march, the teen was back again on Monday proudly flying the flag for the Electrical Trades Union.
But this year, the family tradition of the Labour Day march ahead without her dad.
“I mainly march for my dad. I love marching and singing out all the war cries,” Kasey said.
“Today is one of my special days. Me and my dad have been doing this march for years now.
“I remember when I was four years old, I also got my picture in the Daily Mercury back then.

A former Mackay family is grieving after the devastating loss of beloved husband, son and brother Dylan ‘Bondie’ Bond, 26.
His younger brother Heath, 24, was also rushed to hospital and remains in a stable condition.
The Daily Mercury understands the Bond family were formerly from Mackay and still have connections here, but have spent the past several years in the Geelong region.
They regularly made annual trips back to Mackay to visit family and friends.
Fundraisers have been set up to support the Bond family in the wake of the incident.
Symal Group managing director Joe Bartolo organised a Go Fund Me page, writing Dylan was a valued member of the business.

Despite a âMelbourne Cup fieldâ of hopeful politicians putting their hands up to replace George Christensen, the Dawson MP says it could take âmonthsâ before a new LNP candidate is selected.
Mr Christensen said he was personally aware of several people who intended to nominate as the partyâs pick for the seat of Dawson in the federal election.
He said nominations were still open for others to come forward.
âI suspect, as in most cases, nominations are opened to see who comes forward,â the Dawson MP said.
âThey will then go through a vetting process by the party headquarters.
