No Sudden Move ending explained: What s true in HBO thriller

Print Warning: The following article includes plot details from the entirety of the HBO Max movie “No Sudden Move.” If you haven’t seen the film yet, we suggest reading this review or this story on how the film came together instead. Then come back after you’ve seen the movie. For a movie called “No Sudden Move,” Steven Soderbergh’s new noir thriller does a whole lot of abrupt zigging and zagging. Embed DAVE DAVIES, HOST: This is FRESH AIR. Our film critic Justin Chang recommends the ensemble crime thriller No Sudden Move, which stars Don Cheadle and Benicio Del Toro as two 1950s Detroit gangsters drawn into a citywide conspiracy. It s the latest movie directed by Steven Soderbergh, and it begins streaming this week on HBO Max. Here s Justin. JUSTIN CHANG, BYLINE: Eight years ago, Steven Soderbergh announced his retirement from feature filmmaking. Happily for us, it turned out to be short-lived. Since 2017, he s been on a tear, cranking out one or two new movies a year. Among them, the brilliant NASCAR heist thriller Logan Lucky, the sharp sports agency drama High Flying Bird and The Laundromat in a reverent look at financial fraud in the 21st century. What connects these movies is how attuned they are to matters of class and money in a way that s still pretty rare in Hollywood.

Embed DAVE DAVIES, HOST: This is FRESH AIR. I m Dave Davies, in for Terry Gross. Broadway s coming back and with it the return of Bruce Springsteen s one-man show. It s the first full-length show on Broadway to reopen since theaters went dark due to the pandemic. Today we re going to listen to the interview Terry recorded with Springsteen at his home studio in New Jersey, not far from where he grew up. The occasion was his newly published memoir, which came out in 2016. His memoir shares the title of his most famous song, Born To Run. The theme of that anthem is escape, but in much of the book Springsteen reflects on how he and his music were shaped by home, roots, blood, community and responsibility.

Soderbergh scores again | Film Reviews

MORE Over the decades Steven Soderbergh has made some of the most distinctive films in cinema history plus a few clunkers, the cost of audacity. His 1998 crime thriller Out of Sight is pretty much peerless, but his new one, No Sudden Move, is very much in the same league. Credits
