Editorial: Smart thinking drives fix for transit conundrum » Albuquerque Journal

An ABQ Ride Sun Van                                                                                                      Journal file Faced with a shortage of drivers with commercial licenses to drive the big city buses, the Transit Department is substituting Sun Vans, with drivers who are not required to have a commercial license, for some less busy routes. Voila! Problem solved for now, at least. But it’s an idea that might be of merit even after “normal” returns. The pandemic has contributed to a shortage of drivers for regular established routes. But ridership across the city for both regular and Sun Van service is about half of what it was before the pandemic kept many people home except for critical trips. Respiratory irritation, dead fish reported around Tampa Bay

While red tide conditions remain much-improved along Pinellas County’s Gulf beaches, the same can’t be said for areas in and along Tampa Bay. A report released July 9 by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says bloom concentrations of the red tide organism, Karenia brevis, were observed in water samples taken in Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough and Sarasota counties with the highest concentrations in Tampa Bay. Concentrations from high to background levels were found in Pinellas, very low to medium in Pasco, very low to high in Hillsborough and low to medium in Sarasota. Fish kills suspected to be related to red tide were reported in all four counties and respiratory irritation was reported in Pinellas and Sarasota counties.

Second company helping collect yard, bulk waste in Macon - 41NBC News

41NBC News | WMGT-DT Crews with Southern Disaster Recovery (SDR) are working alongside Ceres Environmental Operations July 9, 2021 MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A second company is now helping Macon-Bibb County catch up on collecting yard and bulk waste. Starting Thursday, crews with Southern Disaster Recovery (SDR) began working alongside Ceres Environmental Operations to collect yard and bulk waste on the curb in front of homes. According to Macon-Bibb, both contracts are set to last up to eight weeks to help collections catch up and get back on schedule. “What we needed was more people and more resources, so we found a way to make that happen,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “We can’t have collections remain this far behind, and by bringing these companies on board, our Solid Waste crews can focus on missed recycling and other issues that arise.”

Yard waste pickup delays throughout Gastonia

Yard waste pickup delays throughout Gastonia A change in how often the city of Gastonia picks up yard waste has some residents upset. City crews now pick up yard waste once a month rather than on a weekly basis in most cases. In some cases, even monthly yard waste pickups have been delayed. It s been more than three weeks since we have had any pickup and our neighbors have the same issue, said Madison Lockridge, a resident of the Gardner Park neighborhood for almost two years. A large pile of leaves, sticks and tree limbs has been piled in front of Lockridge s home for almost a month, she said last week.
