Domino transplant at the Polyclinic of Milan: one liver saves two people
A marathon operation lasting 18 hours: a young man with a rare disease receives an organ from a donor and gives his to another patient.
Gianluca has a rare genetic disease that forced him, at only 27, to undergo a liver transplant. And yet, his liver would work perfectly in another person and could save their life. The solution, which is as simple to imagine as it is complex to put into practice, was “
domino transplantation“: once

Organ donation law change due to come into effect in England on 20th May 6 May 2020
Max and Keira’s Law – the Organ Donation (Deemed Consent) Act, is expected to come into effect on 20 May 2020, subject to the final stage of secondary legislation passing through Parliament.
Under the new law, all adults in England will be considered as having agreed to donate their own organs when they die unless they record a decision not to donate (known as ‘opting out’) or are in one of the excluded groups.
Laval is throwing its support behind the campaign to increase organ donation awareness as part of National Organ and Tissue Donation Week.
All this week, Laval city hall will be illuminated in green, the color of the ribbon that represents the cause, and Mayor Marc Demers made a symbolic gesture by raising the flag in the image of the green ribbon at city hall.
In the pandemic context, organ donation is more important than ever, as it is a concrete life-saving measure: just one organ donation can save up to eight lives and can vastly improve the health of up to 20 people.
MONTREAL The COVID-19 pandemic hasn t just affected the health of those hit by the virus, as organ donations in Canada have fallen by almost 40 per cent. Sunday marks the beginning of National Organ and Tissue Donation Week. According to data from the David Foster Foundation, donations dropped by 39 per cent in 2020, but the trend had been ongoing for some time. “We have a lot of work to do in our country. We live in one of the greatest countries, we re incredibly blessed, yet we have one of the worst donor registration rates in all developed countries,” said foundation CEO Michael Ravenhill.

UHS
It’s one of the most meaningful gifts a person can give to another: the gift of life through organ donation. April is designated each year as National Donate Life Month, celebrating those who have given the gift of life through organ, eye or tissue donation. In partnership with the Center for Donation and Transplant at Albany Medical Center, and ConnectLife, a blood and organ donor network, UHS encourages everyone to register as an organ and tissue donor.
This year, UHS will celebrate two Donate Life Month events during April. A flag-raising will take place at UHS Wilson Medical Center and UHS Binghamton General Hospital on Monday, April 12, with the flags flying through the remainder of April. On Friday, April 16, hospital staff will be encouraged to wear blue and green to raise awareness about the donor registry. With COVID-19 safety measures in place, UHS Hospitals has also reinstated the Walk of Honor, in which fami
