On May 26, 2021, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Afghan Taliban organization) issued a statement warning Afghanistan s neighboring countries, especially Pakistan, not to provide military bases to U.S. for future counter-terrorism missions.[1] Titled Statement Of The Islamic Emirate Regarding Reports About Establishment Of American Bases In The Region, it was published by one of the official websites of the Islamic Emirate.[2]
The Taliban statement comes immediately after the Pentagon said that the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan does not mean that the U.S. is walking away from the region. Pakistan May Host Meeting on Afghan Peace: Sources
Pakistan is likely to host a conference on Afghanistan’s peace, and efforts are being made to hold the event at a high level between the Afghan government and the Taliban, sources from the Presidential Palace and the High Council for National Reconciliation said.
The Taliban said they are not aware of any conference.
In Doha, two meetings have been held within the last two weeks between negotiators from both sides. It was agreed that the meetings must continue, negotiators told TOLOnews.
Palace and HCNR sources said that the potential Pakistan conference has not been finalized, but both sides have held discussions over it.

Lahore, May 25
The prime suspect in the murder case of a 25-year-old British-Pakistani girl has been arrested by Lahore police, officials said.
The victim, identified as Mahira Zulfiqar, was found dead in her rented house in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Lahore on May 3.
Police had registered a murder case against two suspects, Zahir Jadoon and Saad Ameer Butt, on complaint of victim’s uncle Muhammad Nazeer.
“The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Punjab Police has arrested Zahir Jadoon, a prime suspect in the murder of Mahira. In police custody, he has confessed to killing her,” a senior police officer told PTI on Tuesday.
