The South Padaro and Santa Claus Lane undercrossing will be reconstructed with a new clear-span bridge, onramps and offramps. The bridge will feature an arch and beech-wood plank details, according to SBCAG.
New sidewalks, lighting, bike lanes, parking, and landscaping will be added to improve pedestrian areas and bike connections.
“It’s going to connect our community,” said First District Supervisor Das Williams. “Historically, the northern Carpinteria and southern Carpinteria communities have been divided by class, race, and a freeway. That is being erased by the connections that the project has already provided.”
The Padaro segment will create bike connections between Santa Claus Lane and the beach, and increase drainage and flood control capacity, Williams said.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - It will be another week in the COVID-19 orange tier in Santa Barbara County based on the latest data on coronavirus cases reported. With the dropping numbers, however, the less restrictive yellow tier could be reached next Tuesday.
County Health Director Dr. Van Do-Reynoso says the county has a full supply of the vaccine and her department is making it, easy to get, convenient to get.
60.3 percent of eligible persons in Santa Barbara County have received the one-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine or one of the two dose vaccine shots.
COVID-19 numbers fall in Santa Barbara County sending optimism up
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The latest numbers on COVID-19 cases has dropped to barely a blip on the screen in the last reporting period.
19 cases were reported, with zero deaths and empty Intensive Care Unit beds. This, by no means, is the end of the line as health officials will be quick to tell the public. This is the lowest number of ICU cases since we started tracking last April 2020, said Santa Barbara County Health Director Dr. Van Do-Reynoso.
She says the county will remain in the Orange tier for now, and has not met the requirements to go to a lower or yellow tier.

Before her appointment, Harmon told Noozhawk that she will have an active role in conversations about sea-level rise and balancing coastal protection with the needs for housing in the Santa Barbara community.
“First and foremost my priority is transparency and communication. I will bring a love and respect to this law and balance that with pragmatic approaches,”she said in an earlier interview. “Housing and coastal erosion are the most pushing questions for our county, and we have to make sure that we are taking a balanced approach on the commission.”
When nominated by the Board of Supervisors back in March, Harmon was credited with a deep knowledge of the Coastal Act and the Central Coast region. Harmon has said that she knows how challenging it is to balance the complexity of the Coastal Act with fundamental property rights, and she realizes the value and necessity of both.
