Bestway Wholesale has agreed a two-and-a-half year extension to the Co-op’s supply agreement for Costcutter.
Bestway confirmed on Friday it was buying the symbol group from Bibby Line Group for an undisclosed fee and today said the contract extension would provide certainty to Costcutter retailers. It means Co-op will continue to supply Costcutter stores, with branded and own-label products via its Nisa supply chain until 2026.
“We know the Co-op/Nisa supply contract is important to our CSG retailers, and we are delighted to announce this extension, which will give additional reassurance that there is no operational change once CSG becomes part of the Bestway family,” said Bestway Wholesale MD Dawood Pervez.

Costcutter retailers will continue to be supplied by the Co-op for a further five years after new owner Bestway Wholesale this morning unveiled a two-and-a-half year extension to their existing deal.
The wholesaler hopes the extension will come as welcome news to Costcutter retailers, giving them added reassurance that Bestway is committed to ensuring all the benefits they currently enjoy will remain unchanged.
Under the terms of the existing CSG supply contract with the Co-op and delivered wholesaler Nisa, Nisa will continue to supply CSG stores.
This includes supplying the 2,000-SKU Co-op own-brand range, as well as fresh produce.

While Brits were spending Friday lining up online deliveries for presents, Bestway carried out its own version of last-minute Christmas shopping by snapping up Costcutter.
Talks on the deal had kicked off at the start of the year, only to be put on hold as the coronavirus crisis hit. In another sense, this deal has been rumbling on for over three years, both before and after the collapse of Costcutter’s previous supplier Palmer & Harvey at the end of 2017.
Bestway would not comment on the price it has paid for Costcutter, but its turnaround over the past two years is likely to have increased the price tag. While current owner Bibby Line Group has been keen to sell the business for some time, it also wants to recoup as much of the investment it has made into Costcutter over the course of its ownership since 2007. In July 2018, it reportedly rebuffed a £15m offer from Co-op.

Bestway Wholesale has agreed on a deal to buy the symbol group operator Costcutter from the Bibby Line Group for an undisclosed sum, marking a significant move in the independent convenience retail sector.
Bestway said the acquisition of the Costcutter Supermarkets Group (CSG), which will complete on approval from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), follows an improvement in the chain’s performance over the last couple of years. During the 12 months to 31 December 2019, CSG’s revenues rose by 10% to £426m with sales and profitability continuing to rise during 2020 as consumers increasingly shopped locally because of the pandemic.
The acquisition is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2021, with CSG then becoming part of Bestway Wholesale’s retail division. Approximately 1,500 stores operating under the Costcutter, Mace, Supershop, Kwiksave, and Simply Fresh fascias, will join Bestway’s current host of retail brands – Bargain Booze, Bes
