Two meetings to look at this Thursday, with Tabcorp Park Melton and Redcliffe getting my focus. Down below is best bets for the respective programs.
Tabcorp Park Melton
Best bet: Race Four Number 2 Petillante
Making a first starter a best bet can be fraught with danger but she looks a very smart filly and confident she can kick off her career with a win. Trialled here a couple of weeks back and she looked to have gears left when second in the trial.

Pretty keen on this filly to break her maiden status. Went an enormous mile here two back in defeat, then stepped up in trip at Geelong and for mine, just didn’t run out the distance strongly.

There’s a real State of Origin feel about this Hunter Cup.
The marquee race of harness racing’s Summer Of Glory looks a match in two been Victoria’s superstar Lochinvar Art and the defending champion, NSW pin-up pacer King Of Swing.
They’ve clashed three times with King Of Swing holding a 2-1 advantage, but it was their latest meeting which turned the tide and is why Lochinvar Art is TAB’s $1.70 pre-post Hunter Cup favourite and King Of Swing is $3 second elect for the February 6 feature.
Lochinvar Art came from a worse draw, did more work and soundly beat a gallant King Of Swing in track record time in the Group 1 Victoria Cup at Melton on October 10.

It might be New Year’s Eve on Thursday, but at Tabcorp Park Melton, it’s almost like Christmas Day part two, with 12 races set down, all of which are at Group 2 level. Here are the best bets for the monster program.

This shapes up to be an epic race between this guy and Major Moth. Idyllic is the one I like and am keen on. He should get a very comfortable lead with Chris Alford steering and this colt has got better as the season has gone on.
