KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday said that Thar Coal Block-I project comprises a 7.8-million-tonne-per-annum (Mtpa) open-pit coal mine and installation of a 1.3 GW ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant.
“The coal mining work has been completed by 40 per cent and I will visit the project by the end of this month,” CM Shah said while talking to a delegation of Thar Coal Block-I Power Generation Co led by its CEO Meng Donghai.
The delegation members include Sino-Sindh Resources Ltd (SSRL) CEO Li Jigen, Deputy CEO Huang Jinting and Deputy CEO Chaudhary Qayyum. The meeting was attended among others by Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh, Principal Secretary Sajid Jamal Abro and Sindh Energy Secretary Tariq Shah.
Thar Coal Power Generation Saved Pakistan $78 Million: Murad Ali Shah
Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has said that the use of indigenous Thar Coal, instead of imported coal, for power generation, has resulted in a saving of $78 million foreign exchange for the country.
“By procession toward `Economy of scale’ Thar coal prices are reducing from initial $58 per ton to $32 per ton and with further expansion, the prices will reduce even further,” said the CM while presiding over a Thar Coal and Energy Board (TCEB) meeting at the CM House, Karachi.
By further expansion to 15 mtpa or more, Thar coal prices will further reduce by 50 percent, and Thar Coal Tariff (at around 5.5 US cent per kWh) will be the cheapest baseload in the country, he informed.

KARACHI: Fearing a serious crisis in near future and untoward situation in the province, especially in Karachi due to the persistent gas shortage, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday demanded that Prime Minister Imran Khan direct the petroleum division of the federal energy ministry to immediately allocate at least 1,500 to 1,600 MMCFD (million cubic feet a day) gas to the province.

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presiding over a meeting on gas shortage in Sindh on Wednesday directed the provincial energy department to prepare a ‘Sindh case’ under Article 158 of the Constitution so that he could take it up with the federal government.
The meeting was attended by Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh, principal secretary to CM Sajid Jamal Abro and energy secretary Tariq Shah.
The chief minister said that Constitution of Pakistan guaranteed provision of natural gas to the people of the province from where it was being produced.
CM Sindh Orders to Prepare Sindh Case Against Natural Gas Shortage
Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, presiding over a meeting on gas shortage in Sindh, has directed the provincial Energy Department to prepare a ‘Sindh case’ under Article 158 of the constitution to take it up with the federal government.
The Chief Minister said that the constitution of Pakistan guarantees the provision of natural gas to the people of the province it is produced in. “When the constitution guarantees how the federal government can deprive people of Sindh from the gas being produced from the province,” he said.
Minister Energy, Imtiaz Shaikh, Principal Secretary to CM, Sajid Jamal Abro, and Secretary Energy, Tariq Shah, attended the meeting.
