“Not a great week for journalism at the ABC”, News Corp’s Sharri Markson tweeted on Monday, when the week was barely a day old.
It is hard to remember the last time a News Corp columnist declared it was a great week for journalism at the ABC. Markson’s tweet linked to a story in The Australian which quoted Attorney General Christian Porter saying his dropping of his defamation claim against the ABC was “a humiliating backdown by the ABC”.
Apart from reporting the settlement, the main basis for the article was that the ABC had warned its staff not to claim victory following Porter’s withdrawal, and to be careful in the way they talked about it.
ABC Managing Director refuses to explain 13 Cartier watches-worth of a bonus26/05/2021|3min
ABC Managing Director David Anderson has refused to explain to Senate Estimates the awarding of a $55,000 bonus to an ABC employee.
Liberal Senator Eric Abetz asked the managing director whether “this huge bonus of some 11,12,13 Cartier watches” was paid for journalistic or for administrative skills.
Mr Anderson said he “did not wish to have speculation run rife in the media,” but confirmed the bonus was not given on the basis of administrative work.
The Liberal Senator pushed Mr Anderson, but he continued to refuse not to “narrow that down”.
She will announce her candidacy on Monday.
In an interview Sunday, Harris, 28, said the firestorm over a controversial human resources report in 2019 that accused her of harassing the borough manager and a second civil servant influenced her decision to move from behind the scenes to the political stage.
Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante ousted Montgomery from Projet Montréal in January 2020 for refusing to fire Harris without seeing the full report.
In December, Quebec Superior Court sided with Montgomery, saying the city was unreasonable to ask her to fire Harris without her seeing the report or knowing the specifics of the allegations.
