PETA demands DOD ban troops eating bugs, snake blood and more during training: Girl Scouts survive without it, why not Marines?

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) sent Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III a petition letter on Wednesday calling on him to ban the military from killing and eating live animals and insects during survival training. The PETA petition particularly focuses on Cobra Gold, a Marine Corps jungle survival training exercise it participates in with Thailand’s military, and a longstanding tradition. Photos from Cobra Gold have shown participants drinking the blood of beheaded snakes, eating lizards and insects. In an emailed statement to American Military News, PETA said “If Girl Scouts Could Survive in the Jungle Without Drinking Snakes’ Blood, Eating Live Lizards, What’s Wrong With U.S. Marines?”

Report highlights role of Scots enterprise in offshore wind

Around 21 companies, from Dumfriesshire to Orkney, are working on offshore renewable energy projects in Scotland, England, the EU and further afield, according to a new report. Scottish Renewables’ Supply Chain Impact report spotlights several companies that include Global Energy Group (GEG), Leask Marine, Aerial Vision and Partrac. GEG has invested £90m to develop a world-class port facility at Port of Nigg in the Cromarty Firth with further investments planned. Leask Marine is an Orkney marine services company that has worked on more than 22 offshore wind farms across Europe and, from 2019, North America. Drone services provider Aerial Vision, of Lanark, had another busy year after being drafted in to inspect Equinor’s turbines off the coast of south east England.

Public-private-community partnership tackles ocean plastic

published : 19 Jan 2021 at 10:30 1 The first integrated plastic waste processing community enterprise opens at Ban Amphur in Chonburi Ban Amphur in Na Chom Thian at Sattahip in Chonburi, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), MQDC, and Precious Plastic Bangkok have announced a partnership to launch a plastic waste processing community enterprise to help tackle ocean plastic in the Eastern Seaboard. For the first time, the social enterprise will upcycle plastic waste from the sea into construction material for sale. The local community is partnering with government agencies, the municipality, private companies, and educational institutions to address ocean plastic, benefiting society and sustainably generating income for the community. The first prototype in Ban Amphur at Na Chom Thian in Chonburi aims to turn all marine plastic waste into building materials within five years, ready for expansion to other communities in the Eastern Econom
