The Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), Cofact Thailand, the International Fact Checking Network and other anti-fake news organisations yesterday held a seminar to mark International Fact-Checking Day 2021 in Bangkok. The group declared that the period from April 2, 2021-April 2, 2022 should be promoted as the “year of fact-checking”.

In part, the impetus for the development of these products was to offer alternatives to combustible cigarettes that mitigate the health consequences of smoking. According to news reports, the Thai government continues to pursue its goal of reducing the country’s smoking rate to less than 14 percent by 2027. But it is also grappling with scrutiny around the effectiveness of its anti-smoking campaigns and the rise of consumer movements pushing for changes to e-cigarette regulations globally.

On March 9, a group of 45 stateless people living in Muang, Tha Muang and Sangkhla Buri districts and came to Tha Muang district office to provide their DNA samples, which will then be compared to samples provided by their relatives who are confirmed and listed as Thai nationals.
