The lawyer for a Capitol riot suspect from Goshen asked a federal judge on Friday to move his client from a Virginia jail to the Orange County Correctional Facility for his safety and their ability to mount a defense.
Thomas Webster, a 55-year-old Marine veteran and retired cop, has been in custody since Feb. 22 after being charged with assaulting a police officer outside the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 pro-Trump melee. Prosecutors say video recordings show Webster berating and menacing the officer with a Marine flag pole before tackling and nearly choking him by trying to rip off his gas mask and helmet.

Washington Post reporter Rachel Weiner, Webster s lawyer said he being detained in a dormitory setting, after police arrested him in connection with violently storming the U.S. Capitol building on January 6. For a middle aged guy whose never been arrested before this has been a shock for him, his lawyer said, while adding that his record outside of the attack is sparkling.
