Some Catholics who are anti-abortion now face a serious issue of conscience. âWhat is abortion? Itâs never been permissible in the Catholic church under any circumstances,â said Ruth Lowe, an anti-abortion advocate. âI know good, practicing Catholics both supporting the vaccines and taking them. I love and look up to them, as well as the other side.â

They stroll almost every day around their Holt Avenue neighborhood just up the hill from City Park, weather permitting. “When you walk the same routes, you begin to notice different things,” Carolyn told me last week. Things like flowers and landscaping, flamingos and garden gnomes in yards, and eagles and geese near the river. “But our eyes are often on the ground, because we need to watch for curbs or potholes or uneven pavements,” she said. They are retired and often use a cane or walking stick for a little extra balance. Carolyn had a knee replaced a year ago.
