DETECTIVES have made a fresh appeal for help in finding the remains of an English drugs courier murdered on Fenwick Moor more than 30 years ago. Paul Thorne, from Bristol, was shot dead in a remote wooded area near the village of Moscow in Ayrshire in October, 1988. He had arrived in Glasgow earlier that day with a £30,000 consignment of the drug Amphetamine Sulphate. His job was to hand over the batch and take the cash payment back to gang bosses in Bristol. Instead, Thorne was lured down to Fenwick Moor on a pretext and killed. Five men John Paul McFadyen, Ricardo Blanco, Thomas Collins, Thomas Currie and Stephen Mitchell stood trial for his murder and three McFadyen, Blanco and Collins were found guilty.
SIX men drove their hired van into the bleak vastness of Fenwick Moor in Ayrshire having travelled 20 miles from Glasgow. A short time later the van made the same journey back to the city minus one of its occupants, Bristol drugs courier Paul Thorne. Thorne had arrived in the city earlier that day with a £30,000 consignment of the drug amphetamine sulphate – worth £82,000 in today’s money. Once the drugs were sold in Glasgow to local dealers, his job was to take the cash payment back to his masters in Bristol. His companions that Saturday afternoon in early October 1988 included four Glasgow men and a Spaniard called Ricardo Blanco.

Tastes of Heaven goes virtual, and national April 18, 2021
The annual Tastes of Heaven gala fundraiser for Catholic Missions In Canada was not staged in 2020, one of the long list of victims of the COVID-19 virus, but the keystone event returns April 29 in a virtual realm.
Joe Gennaro said taking the annual gala the largest fundraiser each year in support of Catholic Missions and its support for the Catholic Church in Canada’s mission territories online serves two purposes.
“The reason why we chose the format is to stay in front of our donors to show them that we are trying to operate during this time so that our missions could receive their help,” said Gennaro, stewardship officer with Catholic Missions. “We also thought it would be interesting to try and grab a wider audience basically all of Canada could participate compared to in the past when a limited audience from the (Greater Toronto Area) could attend.”
