THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CBI Special Court has awarded life sentence to Fr Thomas Kottoor and Sister Sephy in the sensational Sister Abhaya murder case. The Court has also imposed a fine of Rs six-and-a-half lakh on Kottoor and five lakh on Sephy. Fr Kotoor was imposed fine for murder, destruction of evidence and tresspassing while Sr Sephy was imposed fine for murder and destruction of evidence.

The Kottayam diocese of the church, however, said it accepted the verdict of the court, which on Wednesday sentenced Fr Thomas Kottoor and Sister Sephy to life imprisonment, 28 years after Abhaya, an inmate of the church convent, was found dead under mysterious circumstances.

Thiruvananthapuram: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Wednesday announced the quantum of punishment of the two persons convicted for the murder of Sister Abhaya. The two convicts were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Both accused Sister Sephy and Father Thomas Kottoor were convicted by the CBI court on Tuesday. The judgement was ordered after a wait of 28 years by CBI judge K Sanal Kumar. Another accused in the case, Father Jose Poothrikkayil, was discharged by the CBI Court last year.
