With freezing temperatures on the way, there is an appeal to help those most in need.
Acadiana s first freeze could come over the weekend, in the days that follow expect more freezes and perhaps an ice storm.
The Acadiana Regional Coalition for Homelessness and Housing expects about 300 families and individuals will need housing over the next few days. Because of the pandemic, group shelters aren t an option.
ARCH is looking at thousands of dollars to put them up in hotels, but they can t do it alone.

A Lafayette group of advocates for mental health has issued a statement about a recent deputy suicide.
Last week, a deputy took his own life outside the Lafayette Parish Sheriff s Office. Before he did so, he posted several videos on his social media accounts which show a man struggling with despair.
Meaningful Minds of Louisiana, which describes itself as a Lafayette-based statewide organization of individuals with lived experience of a mental health condition, issued a statement honoring the deputy, but calling for change in the Lafayette Police Department.
January 6, 1927 â January 8, 2021
On January 8th, following the celebration of her 94th birthday two days prior, Mary Glover Bastin passed peacefully into the Lordâs hands while surrounded by her family. The eldest child of Thomas Maxwell Shircliff and Martha Bayard Somes, Mary was born in Vincennes, Indiana, on January 6, 1927. She graduated from the Ladywood School in Indianapolis, attended the Sorbonne in Paris as one of the first students immediately after World War II, and graduated from Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York. Mary had the rare ability to grace every room she entered; she seldom expressed an unkind word and made each person she met feel as if they were the only person in the room. Though schooled in the social graces of that era, she was a woman ahead of her time and strived to experience the world.
