McCloskeys want criminal case revisited by grand jury after bias revealed in prosecutor s office

Print this article Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the couple seen protecting their home with firearms during unrest last summer, want their criminal case to be revisited by a grand jury after Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner was found by a judge to have ulterior motives in the proceedings. “Due to the bias of Kim Gardner’s office, we believe the grand jury process was tainted and should be reviewed and revisited,” Joel Schwartz, the attorney for the pair, told the Associated Press on Wednesday. The McCloskeys were charged in July with unlawful use of a weapon in addition to evidence tampering following the circulation of the viral video that showed the duo confronting protesters in front of their St. Louis mansion following the death of George Floyd. Executed 1916 Irish revolutionary was a U S citizen

Wicked Local Thomas Clarke was the only U.S. citizen to be executed as a result of the 1916 Easter Rising - the most significant uprising in Ireland since the rebellion of 1798. “Clarke spent a good deal of time in America,” said journalist and historian Dermot McEvoy, “and he eventually became a citizen.” Clarke is considered the real leader of the 1916 Easter Rising, despite his quiet somewhat meek persona. “Padraig Pearse was the front man because he liked to make speeches,” McEvoy said. “Clarke worked behind the scenes. He was the man who organized everything.” The six-day Rising took place during Easter Week 1916 against British rule after members of the Irish Republican Brotherhood Military Council (IRBMC), the Irish Volunteer Force, and the Irish Citizen Army successfully took over pre-selected buildings around Dublin with little resistance.

Mercer, Hugh (1725–1777) – Encyclopedia Virginia

Mercer was born on January 17, 1725, at Pitsligo Kirk, the family farm in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. His parents were William Mercer, a Presbyterian minister, and Ann Monro Mercer. By 1744, he had obtained a medical degree from the University of Aberdeen. Mercer and his family were Jacobites, meaning that they supported the restoration of the Stuarts to the English throne. The Stuart king James II, a Catholic, had been deposed in 1688 by the Dutch Protestant William III and his wife, Mary, who was King James’s daughter. Queen Anne, another of James’s children, ruled from 1702 to 1707, after which the Hanoverian kings succeeded to the throne. When Charles Edward Stuart, Anne’s brother, arrived in western Scotland, in July 1744, Mercer promptly joined the cause, fighting with “Bonnie Prince Charlie” at Culloden on April 16, 1746.
