Australians are eating more fake meat than ever before, according to the latest annual report tracking the emerging industry.
The major supermarkets have responded to growing demand for meat-free burgers, sausages and ready meals by doubling the number of plant-based meat products on their shelves in the past financial year.
The surging demand for fake meat has led to a doubling of industry jobs and manufacturing revenue.

A five-storey apartment in the Greens was not approved for discretionary use on the grounds that it exceeded height requirements for the area. There was also considerable pushback from the community.
Matthew Carleton addressed council on behalf of residents of Green Crescent, whom he says will be most affected by the new development.
