For all the talk of Kerala’s high literacy, neither the state’s political parties nor its voters have shown any particular fancy for candidates with distinctly high academic qualifications. The bearded economist with a Marxian beard, T. M. Thomas Isaac has been an exception, winning from Mararikulam and Alappuzha constituencies multiple times. The two-time finance minister of Kerala with a PhD from the Centre for Development Studies in Kerala has often seemed an odd-ball in his party, the Communist Party of India Marxist, in which his colleagues are known for no-holds-barred aggression unlike Isaac who often draws parallels to his fiscal plans for the state with the writings of famous literary icons of the state.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has released a list of 83 candidates on Wednesday for the Kerala Assembly elections. CM Pinarayi Vijayan has announced his candidature from Dharmadam, Health Minister KK Shailaja from Mattannur, and Higher Education Minister KT Jaleel from Thavanoor.
The 83 of 85 candidates including nine CPI(M) supported independents. Labour minister TP Ramakrishnan, Power minister MM Mani, Devaswom minister Kadakkampally Surendran, Fisheries minister Mercykutty Amma and Local Self Government minister AC Moideen are in the poll fray.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and six of his cabinet colleagues have been fielded by the ruling CPI(M) for the April 6 state assembly elections, while Finance Minister Thomas Issac has been denied
a ticket this time.
The party on Wednesday released the list of 83 of its 85 candidates including nine CPI(M) supported independents.
Health Minister KK Shailaja, Labour Minister TP Ramakrishnan, Power Minister M M Mani, Devaswom Minister Kadakkampally Surendran, Fisheries Minister Mercykutty Amma and Local Self Government minister AC Moideen are trying their luck once again.
