Piers Morgan, Meghan Markle and the difficult message about suicide

Photo PA/(Joe Pugliese/Harpo Productions) The Harry-Meghan interview with Oprah has produced an orgy of publicity, raising serious issues about racism, mental health, the behaviour of the media, privilege and the British Monarchy. The show is deeply dividing people as to what side they’re on. To be honest, although I did watch the programme, it scarcely matters to me which of the parties you’re siding with. I was, however, horrified by some of the reaction to the revelation by Meghan Markle that she struggled with mental health problems and had suicidal thoughts.

Brotherhood of men develops too infrequently

“I am glad you are here with me. Here at the end of all things, Sam.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien,” The Return of the King” The news came as a great surprise. My husband’s very dear lifelong friend. He had been sick, Stage 4 lung cancer. He was so close to the next trial, but chemotherapy weakened him too much. And my husband and several friends are left with funny and meaningful memories. They might not have gone to the edges of the Earth like Sam and Frodo, but they shared some great adventures. Reflecting on the tragedy of physician suicide

Reflecting on the tragedy of physician suicide 6 Shares Recent events in our mid-west region prompted us to bring the topic of physician suicide forward with our residents and fellows. They received this information in a weekly mindfulness email they receive as part of our internal coaching program: Losing a colleague or friend to suicide is a tragedy to those who survive and it can be devastating.  With such tragedy can come feelings of sadness, grief and confusion. The feeling of loss that can accompany losing “one of our own” can be terrible. And then many questions often follow. Was the individual depressed or mentally ill. What was the trigger? How much stress were they under? Were there any signs? How could suffering like this have been missed? These will be unanswered questions, forever.
