FREEPORT Students and staff at Aquin Junior/Senior High School are going to have to share their space next year, and they are excited about doing it.
School administrators plan to move Aquin Elementary and kindergarten students from the St. Joseph campus at 202 W. Pleasant St. to the high school campus a few blocks away at 1419 S. Galena Ave. I am happy to announce another step in strengthening Catholic education in and around the Freeport area, said Aquin Superintendent Elizabeth Heitkamp. We are very excited to bring a one-faith, one-campus concept to Aquin Schools beginning with the 2021-22 school year.

INDIANAPOLIS Butler-Tarkington faith leaders and neighbors held a candlelight vigil Sunday night to mourn the lives lost to gun violence in Indianapolis, including the recent mass shooting at the Indianapolis FedEx facility that left nine people dead, including the gunman.
The vigil at St. Thomas Aquinas Church gave many a time to reflect and call for change. According to organizers, Indianapolis has lost 78 people to gun violence this year. Each of those names was read to the group.
Feeling, more than ever, the weight of a police badge

One of my most treasured possessions is an old police badge. It was given to me by my grandfather, a Boston cop, more than 60 years ago.
Topped by a majestic eagle, its only markings are the words “Police Department” and the number “615,” leaving me to forever wonder if he wore it as a lieutenant detective in Boston’s Chinatown, where they once named him honorary mayor. Or maybe as a security guard in his retirement at Suffolk Downs in East Boston during the summer. Or maybe, in the winter, as head of security at the Belleview-Biltmore Hotel just outside Clearwater, Florida.
