Attahiru and 10 other military officers died in an air crash near the Kaduna international airport on Friday.
Their remains were buried at the national military cemetery in the federal capital territory (FCT) on Saturday.
In a tweet on Sunday evening, the first lady shared photos of her visit to the army chief’s residence, saying the death of Attahiru and other officers is a monumental loss to the nation.

“I paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru. The death of the late Chief of Army Staff and the other military officers aboard the ill-fated aircraft is a monumental loss to their families and the Nation at large,” the tweet reads.

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed all public buildings, facilities and official residences to fly the Nigerian flag at half-mast in honour of his late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other officers who died in a plane crash on Friday.
Mr Buhari also approved May 24 as a work-free day for the members of the armed forces.
Mr Attahiru and the officers were on official assignment to Zaria, Kaduna State when the military plane crashed.

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast for three days in honour of late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 others who died in an air crash on Friday.
He also approved Monday as a work-free day for members of the Armed Forces.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
He said the national flag will fly half-mast from Monday to Wednesday.
The statement titled, ‘National flag to fly at half-mast in honour of late Chief of Army Staff and others that have paid the supreme price’ read, “His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria has authorised that the national flag should be flown at half-mast in all public buildings, facilities and official residences with effect from Monday 24th to Wednesday 26th May, 2021.
