The following issues should be addressed in order to catapult the recovery of the Lake Region economy;
No conversation of economic nature can begin without our biggest resource – Lake Victoria. With the nerve of the lake’s inland water transport, Kisumu Port already revitalized, we need to push for the water connectivity of Kisumu to Kendu Bay, Kajimo, Homa Bay, Mbita, Mfangano, Sindo, Nyandiwa, Sori and others. The 6 jetties in Homa Bay should be rehabilitated and the 141 landing beaches developed.

RIYADH: Cash flow from the Julius Nyerere Dam project in Tanzania is expected to account for about 10 percent of Egypt Elsewedy Electric’s total revenue, Managing Director Ahmed Elsewedy said. The $2.9 billion project is scheduled to be completed in 36 months, Elsewedy said during a visit to the project in Tanzania, Asharq reported. The dam project on the Rufiji River in eastern Tanzania will contribute to supporting the country’s economy by creating jobs and developing industry that will benefit from the energy produced by the dam, he said. The construction of Julius Nyerere Hydropower Station is being carried out by an Egyptian consortium of Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric. It is the largest contract for Egyptian companies in Africa, and is fully financed by Tanzania’s government, Elsewedy told Al Arabia.

The Nakuru- Kisumu train will roar back to life after years of dilapidation following refurbishment efforts by Kenya Railways.
The Ksh3.7 billion project which is being undertaken by the transport agency is expected to open up the western region.
Already, a majority of the track has been redone with the stations in Nakuru and Kisumu at different levels of completion.
