From the 1880s until 1996, when Canada s last residential school closed, the government-funded and primarily church-run schools separated 150,000 Indigenous children across the country from their families, in an effort to assimilate children. Many experienced horrific physical, mental and sexual abuse. GEAPS Hosts Exchange Online Conference Feb 23-25

Representative image The grain handling and processing professional association is hosting a digital event that includes a virtual trade show. Grain industry professional association The Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) announced Wednesday that registration is open for the GEAPS Exchange Online Conference Feb. 23-25. The online event includes a virtual trade show, a showcase of the latest products in the industry, leadership workshops and several hours of technical training. It runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Central daily, with an hour break in the middle of the day. The event costs $50 for GEAPS members who register before Feb. 8 and $150 for non-members. After that date, the cost is $75 for GEAPS members and $200 for non-members.

It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Skok announces his passing in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Friday, December 18, 2020, at the age of 71 years. Peter was born in Hanau, Germany on March 29, 1949. He grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. He spent many years working in the Grain Elevators and working at the Hydro Camp. He had a passion for carpentry. He showed great love for his family and friends. He was a good family man, good friend and was loved by all. Peter is survived by his wife Norma; sons Michael (Kelly) and Richard (Laurie); daughter Jennifer; multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings Lubba Janonovich, Zina Kusmenko, Andre, Howard (Dianne) Boyezuk; as well as numerous nieces, nephew and other relatives. He is also survived by his loving friend Marcy Berube.

GEAPS/AFIA partner to expand education

Dec 17, 2020 The Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) is partnering with the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) to share educational programming across both member organizations. GEAPS members will receive a discount on AFIA’s distance education courses, including its Fundamentals of Feed Manufacturing Online course offered live or on demand through Kansas State University. Members of the AFIA will receive discounts on GEAPS s online training courses. GEAPS executive director Steve Records explained the overlap between the organizations. “A big part of GEAPS includes the ‘processing’ operations for the industry. Our member facilities supply all avenues of the food chain, including the feed industry,” Records said. “Many of AFIA’s members receive, store and process grain as part of regular operations.
