More charges have been laid in connection to an anti-lockdown rally in Chatham a week and a half ago.
Municipal CAO Don Shropshire says there have now been five charges laid, although no specifics have been released.
“Really it’s a matter of reviewing the information that they have available to determine whether people were lawfully protesting and exercising that right, or whether they were doing something that was contrary to the health guidelines and putting people’s safety and health at risk.”
Shropshire says there is the potential for more charges in the coming days and weeks.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is looking at tougher measures for repeat offenders of the Reopening Ontario Act.
Alberta Health Services closed Grace Life Church just outside of Edmonton last month and surrounded it with fencing after church officials continued to refuse to follow mandatory public health restrictions.
Shropshire said the municipality is doing everything possible to try and work with people, including education and warnings, but he reminds the public that there are increasing fines and penalties for those who continue to disregard the public health and safety rules, up to and including jail time. He said that should serve as a deterrent, if it hasn’t already.
WINDSOR, ONT. A second charge has been laid following an anti-lockdown event in Chatham on April 26. On top of the first charge from last week, Chatham-Kent’s Chief Administrative Officer Don Shropshire said bylaw enforcement have another seven investigations underway “People with enforcement have up to six months to lay a charge,” said Shropshire. A group of about 300 mask-less demonstrators and frustrated Ontarians gathered in Tecumseh Park for a noon hour rally organized by the “No More Lockdowns Canada” group, which toured the region. Those in attendance expressed frustration with the province’s stay-at-home orders, worried the measures had taken away rights and freedoms.
