On August 14, 1961, a key moment in our industry’s early years transpired when Speedee Mart founder Henry Boney called on 14 owners, presidents and general managers of convenience stores to attend a meeting in Kansas City, Missouri. Boney felt “sufficient growth of convenience food stores throughout the country was such that it warranted the formation of an association to cover that segment of the food industry.” Attendees agreed, and the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) was born.

A new tax on sweetened beverages introduced in a Washington Senate committee meeting this week is upsetting Clark County business owners who see it as a threat to their enterprises already suffering during the pandemic.

ATHOL The Board of Planning and Community Development has given its blessing to a proposal to transform the former Riverbend and Bigelow schools into intergenerational housing. The board, at its most recent meeting, voted unanimously to approve the site plan for the development proposed by NewVue Affordable Housing Corporation of Fitchburg. The cost of turning former classrooms and offices into apartments, as well as constructing a new building on site to accommodate additional units and community space, has been estimated at as much as $30 million.
