Kiri and Lou: A local production to be ridiculously proud of

A Christchurch business has created a unique children s show with it s own magical space. REVIEW: If you re the proud parent, caregiver or entertainment provider to a few young uns, then you may already be thanking your lucky stars that Kiri and Lou is available to watch, any old time you like, on TVNZ s On Demand service. Kiri and Lou are a dinosaur and an, err, something or other, going about their day in the time-honoured fashion of cartoon animals since Mickey Mouse turned up in Steamboat Willie in 1928. But Kiri and Lou is just a little bit special. Firstly, the show is proudly made right here in Aotearoa – in Ōtautahi to be exact – by a group of old-school animators working out of a collection of buildings in Ferrymead.

The Briscoes lady, Tammy Wells, invites us into her home

Reuben Looi/Woman Tammy certainly never set out to become a national treasure but it’s something she’s now very proud of. This story was published on Woman. To most of us, Tammy Wells is quite simply the Briscoes lady - the inimitable Kiwi icon whose warm smile and cheery voice and been beamed into our living rooms and lives for more than 30 years. But to her friends and family, Tammy is not only an advertising legend, she’s also a devoted mum, loving wife, farmer, friend, and even a longtime organ player at her local church. While her role as the face of homeware giant Briscoes – which she started an astonishing 31 years ago – takes her away from home for around 30 days out of the year, it’s here at her little slice of rural paradise on the outskirts of Christchurch where she’s happiest. And as she welcomes us on to the property she’s called home for almost 40 years, she insists there’s simply no place she’d rather be.

OK. Nearly Christmas. Footloose and Covid-free. This week I have three shows for you. First up a concert by the most excellent Grant Haua, who has spent nearly two years working on a future that is finally beginning to reap the rewards he deserves. In that time Grant has recorded a solo album – his third – along with a number of accompanying videos, all in the pursuit of landing an international record label. And that s just what happened earlier in the year, when French label Dixiefrog signed him with the aim of launching his music in Europe, along with accompanying tours and full support.
