Cashing in: SGI starts mailing out rebate cheques

(980 CJME file photo) The cheque is in the mail or it will be shortly. SGI announced Tuesday it’s starting to mail out around 709,000 rebate cheques to Saskatchewan residents this week, as was promised in February. The Crown corporation is sharing around $285 million with the province’s drivers, who will receive on average about $380. The plan is to send out all of the cheques over the next three weeks, which means people should be receiving their rebates between mid-May and mid-June. Anyone who has not received their rebate by June 30 should call SGI’s Customer Service Centre at 1-844-855-2744.

SGI begins to mail out rebate cheques

Customers are advised to ensure their address is up-to-date with SGI, and to please be patient. If you have not received your rebate by June 30, you should call SGI s customer service centre at 1-844-TLK-2SGI (1-844-855-2744). These rebates will provide a significant injection into the provincial economy, at a time when it will certainly be a welcome boost, Minister Responsible for SGI Don Morgan said. Rebates are being provided to any entity that registered a vehicle in Saskatchewan and met the residency requirements to register a vehicle as of Feb. 26, 2021. That includes individuals, non-profit organizations and businesses.

SGI Rebate Cheques On The Way

By Carol Thomson May 11, 2021 | 12:49 PM If you had a vehicle registered with SGI between 2018 and 2020, your cheque is in the mail, or it will be shortly. Chief Financial Officer Jeff Stepan says about 709,000 rebate cheques are being mailed out over the next few weeks and the average rebate per recipient is $380. This is because of an excess in the Auto Fund. He explains that when that happens they can either reduce premiums or mail out rebate cheques. Smaller rebates were handed out for 2006 at an average of $185 and at an average of $84 for 2005. Stepan says the excess in the Auto Fund was because of strong performance in their investments, although a good winter with fewer accidents and fewer people on the road during the lockdown also contributed.

What s in your backyard, Marblehead?

What s in your backyard, Marblehead? One resident s wildlife log shines a light on a suddenly popular spot already teeming with life Wicked Local Between bike riders, ice rink seekers, and even at one point school builders, the property at the corner of Green and Beacon streets has, as Marblehead Conservancy member Don Morgan put it, “risen from obscurity” in recent years. But for Cloutman’s Lane resident Kathy Leonardson, the 5.5-acre parcel is a neighbor and one that is, that despite no buildings, already teeming with life. After the Leonardsons bought their property in the mid-1990s, Kathy began to keep a log of the wildlife observed on their 3-acre plot. Morgan said since wildlife really knows no boundaries, it is safe to assume that whatever species Leonardson spotted in her backyard would also be found on the school-owned property known only as “Green Street Woods” on the Conservancy’s map.
