LAKELAND Former Lakeland City Commissioner Don Selvage returned to City Hall as interim replacement for Scott Franklin on Monday and wasted no time in issuing an immediate call for action to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Selvage called for Lakeland and other Polk County officials to support President-elect Joe Biden s 100-day mask challenge, which encourages everyone to wear a face mask to stop the spread. We really do need as elected officials to, one, set example, and try to rally our citizens, he said.
Selvage pointed to an extreme surge of new cases in Polk over the last three weeks. The county has averaged 321.5 new infections a day during December, far eclipsing the previous high average of 279.5 in July during the summer surge.
