SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. Any ideas about a regional sex offender facility being established in South Lake Tahoe were squashed Tuesday by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors.
District 5 Supervisor Sue Novasel led the charge to immediately stop the process with the board voting 4-1 to direct staff not to proceed with pursuing a grant that could have refurbished the existing juvenile treatment center, located at 1041 Al Tahoe Boulevard, and turned it into a facility that could handle incarcerated youth sex offenders, among other offenses.
“The process has to change here and now,” Novasel said during the meeting. “This is not OK. We’re a very small community … for so many reasons this is a no for me. I think we need to make a clear statement today.”

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) is seeking a increase of developer fees that go to the district from $2.24 per square foot to $3.20 per square foot. They plan to use the increase in revenue to support its program to reconstruct existing facilities, funds that are needed due to rising costs in South Lake Tahoe.
The current fee structure has been in place since 2013. It is calculated on all living area space when a building permit is issued by the City of South Lake Tahoe or El Dorado County, depending on where the home falls within the LTUSD boundaries.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bank of the West s South Lake Tahoe branch has had to close temporarily due to a staffing shortage. A representative at the bank s branch in Carson City said it is a COVID-related closure and some staff has been in quarantine as they await test results. This has been a problem at many area banks since the pandemic started.
Once staff can be assembled to reopen safely, expect the doors to the branch at 2161 Lake Tahoe Boulevard to open once again.
Customers can use the ATM and visit branches in Carson City, Truckee, Tahoe City and Kings Beach. Normal hours during the week and until 2:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Call ahead to confirm hours at the branch being visited.
