Students 16 and older can soon get vaccinated at Lake County schools

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Parents in Lake County had mixed opinions about having their kids vaccinated in the wake of news that students 16 and older will be able to get a COVID-19 vaccine at school starting next week, according to a news release from the school district.
The optional vaccinations will start Eustis High School then rotate to schools throughout the week. It’s a partnership with the state department of health.

Students will gather to hear reflections from guest speakers including:
Allen Ellison, who is now running for a seat in the U.S. Senate after growing up in a mobile home in Wauchula with six siblings;
Desmond Mead, who earned a law degree after serving time in prison, and is now the executive director of the Florida Rights Restoration Commission;
Rene Caldwell, daughter of T.H. Poole Sr., former state chairman of the NAACP and instrumental figure in Lake County s civil rights efforts;
Mae Hazelton, who attended Tavares High School when it desegregated, was a civil servant in the federal government and received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award;
