HBO has unleashed the first trailer for its upcoming genre-mashing series
The Nevers for viewing pleasure. Released on Tuesday, February 2, the trailer of the sci-fi series features Victorian ladies showcasing their superpowers.
It opens with Lord Massen narrating in voiceover, It came three years ago, a power that mocks God. Those afflicted are Touched. A silhouette of what seems like a monster flickers on screen before Amalia True (

The Nevers, HBO’s upcoming “Victorian ladies with superpowers” series, has released its first trailer chockful of the aforementioned ladies, some fun 19th-century fight scenes, and what seems to be just a dash of steampunk.
What it doesn’t contain is a lot of clarity on what’s going on, other than “The Touched” or “The Afflicted,” if you’re being nasty about it dealing with a male-dominated society that is quite uneasy about all these women having real, literal power (although there are a few Touched who are male). The Nevers would have been touted as Joss Whedon s show, but following the

Buffy touches, and not just because it features kick-ass women with powers.
In the last years of Victoria’s reign, London is beset by the Touched : people – mostly women – who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities – some charming, some very disturbing. Among them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious, quick-fisted widow, and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant young inventor. They are the champions of this new underclass, making a home for the Touched, while fighting the forces of. well, pretty much all the forces – to make room for those whom history as we know it has no place.
The Nevers which he created, then left in the middle of production due to the general stress of making a big television show in the middle of a pandemic gets a first trailer. Back when he was still attached, Whedon called it “the most ambitious narrative” he’d ever created.
The Nevers takes place in Victorian London, where people mostly women suddenly manifest magical abilities. Known as the “Touched,” they must find a space for themselves amidst the rigid (and frankly sexist) Victorian society, with widow Amalia True (Laura Donnelly) and inventor Penance Adair (Ann Skelly) leading the way. The Nevers,” currently slated to debut in April. The show will release on HBO and HBO Max with six-episodes, and the cast includes Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Rochelle Neil, Eleanor Tomlinson, Amy Manson, Pip Torrens, Denis O’Hare, Zackary Momoh, Elizabeth Berrington, Kiran Sawar, Anna Devlin, Viola Prettejohn, Ella Smith, Nick Frost, and Ben Chaplin.
