Bribie to regenerate after wild weather, king tide

Premium Content Subscriber only A breakthrough at Bribie Island which could be detrimental to houses along Golden Beach could “regenerate itself”, a coastal guard said. Caloundra Coast Guard volunteers and locals were anxiously awaiting Tuesday morning’s 2m-high tide which was threatening to further damage a 2m-wide and 1m-deep break over the northern end of Bribie Island. But Caloundra Coast Guard volunteer Commander Roger Pearce said the island’s banks had survived the wild weather and high tides. “Today we have a 2.1m tide which is just gone, the waves came over but nowhere near yesterday and the damage has been much less than yesterday, so at this stage the island is intact,” he said.

Premium Content UPDATE 11.30AM: The next high tide will determine the extent of damage done to Pumicestone Passage and Golden Beach after wild weather battered Bribie Island’s banks. Caloundra Coast Guard volunteer Commander Roger Pearce said Tuesday morning’s high tide could further damage the island’s banks. “There is no canal broken through at the moment, the waves are breaking over the surface,” he said. “But there is a 2.02m tide tomorrow, so we might have another issue at 8:30am tomorrow. “There is undoubtedly more water coming.” He said there wasn’t much that could be done to prevent further damage.
