KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Reuters) - Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Wednesday named defence minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob as his deputy, in a move that could ease tensions with a key ally in the ruling coalition.
Muhyiddin s tenure since he came to power in March last year has been plagued by tensions with the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) party - the largest bloc in the ruling alliance and Malaysia s biggest party.

THE window for Asean to take effective action in addressing the ongoing political tumult in Myanmar is increasingly narrowing, say former Asean diplomats and regional experts, as the coup d etat by the military junta against a civilian government approaches its sixth month.
In an Asia News Network webinar on June 21 titled Myanmar: Hope fades, fear mounts, Indonesia’s former foreign minister Dr Marty Natalegawa said that the regional block must do better in its efforts to find a solution to the ongoing crisis, which erupted after the armed forces in Myanmar seized power from the National League for Democracy (NLD) in February. A massive ongoing protest, dubbed the Spring Revolution, rose in response to the coup and was responded to by violence and mass arrests by the junta.
