Tony Kelly: Tributes to former Mayor of South Ribble who has died | Lancaster And Morecambe Citizen

TRIBUTES have been paid to former mayor and leader of South Ribble Borough Council who has died of cancer. Tony Kelly, who was 85, was first elected to represent the the Lowerhouse ward in Leyland ward in 1974. This would mark the beginning of a distinguished 41 year career in local politics with Councillor Kelly going on to serve as Mayor of South Ribble from 1986 to 1987 and as Leader of the Council from 1995 to 1998. Councillor Paul Foster, the council s current leader, said: “Tony Kelly was an incredible man who actually joined the council in the year of its inception: 1974. “He went on to achieve more than 40 years’ service an absolutely phenomenal achievement for a councillor.

They come after Cheshire West and Chester’s full council meeting voted last night (February 25) to ‘pause’ the lanes and ‘to commission further investigations into solutions to improve Active Travel’ in Upton and Boughton. At the meeting, Conservative Cllr Neil Sullivan called on Cllr Karen Shore and Cllr Matt Bryan to resign from their cabinet positions, with an online petition from the People Against Travel Lanes Chester campaign group echoing those sentiments.

Covid-hit company hands Penarth pavilion back to Vale council

A CHARITY that operated Penarth Pier and its pavilion has surrendered its 125-year lease to freeholder the Vale of Glamorgan Council. Penarth  Arts and Crafts Ltd (PACL) surrendered its lease of the building officially this week, as it approaches insolvency. The pier, which opened in 1893 and underwent a £4m revamp completed in 2013 with National Lottery funding, is now back in the hands of the Vale, which says it is “committed to securing its future as a community facility”. All operations have been suspended at the pier since November. PACL remains active on Companies House. Accounts for 2019 that were due on December 31 are yet to be published.
