PROFESSOR Jim Dornan, one of Northern Ireland s leading obstetricians, has been remembered as an original thinker who was larger than life following his death yesterday at the age of 73.
The father of actor Jamie Dornan, Professor Dornan died after contracting coronavirus within the last month. He had successfully beaten leukaemia 15 years ago.
The former Belfast trust medic was also chair of Health and Life Sciences at Ulster University and former chair in Fetal Medicine at Queens University Belfast.

Actor Jamie Dornan s father, Dr Jim Dornan passed away at the age of 73 due to COVID 19. The renowned obstetrician and gynaecologist had previously been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. The news of his passing has come as a shock to those in the medical fraternity. Northern Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride also paid a tribute to Professor Jim Dornan.

A wave of European Union (EU) countries have moved to suspend AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine on Monday, ignoring the advice of the bloc’s own medicines regulator, the EMA. The NI Executive has agreed a number of easements to existing coronavirus restrictions this afternoon, it is understood.
They include a relaxation of the numbers allowed to meet in a private garden from six people from two households on April 1, to 10 from two households after Easter as well as the launch of click and collect services from garden centres and plant nurseries - also from April 1.
