The “Composite Floor Test” to elect the new CEM (Chief Executive Member) of the Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) will be held in Kokrajhar on Thursday.

GUWAHATI: The Composite Floor Test to elect the new CEM (Chief Executive Member) of the Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) will be held in Kokrajhar on Thursday. With this, the fate of Pramod Boro will be decided. Boro had taken oath as the CEM of BTC in Kokrajhar on December 15.
The development follows after the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday ordered the Composite Floor Test on or before December 26, 2020. The Court issued this direction after hearing the writ petition filed by former BTC CEM Hagrama Mohilary and others challenging the appointments of Pramod Boro as the new CEM, Gobinda Basumatary as the Deputy CEM and four other Executive Members (EMs) by the Governor of Assam on December 13 and 14 last respectively.

The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday ordered a floor test in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) before December 26 for the ruling alliance of the BJP-UPPL-GSP to prove their strength.

Guwahati, Dec 22 (IANS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah would visit Assam on December 26 and during his visit, several leaders of the opposition parties are likely to join the ruling BJP, party sources said here on Tuesday.
BJP leaders said that the visit of Shah is very significant ahead of next year s elections to the 126-member Assam Assembly, likely to be held in April or May. During the Home Minister s visit, several leaders of various opposition parties would join the BJP. Shah would discuss important issues related to the elections with the state party leaders, including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, a BJP leader said, refusing to disclose the details of the leaders who are likely to join the ruling party.

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday ordered a “composite floor test” in Assam’s autonomous Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) on or before December 26.
The single-judge bench of Justice Suman Shyam barred the new executive council, formed by the combine of BJP, United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and Gana Shakti Party (GSP), from taking any major decisions till the matter is resolved. The three parties had forged a post-poll alliance.
Earlier, six members were nominated to the BTC which administers four Assam districts such as Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri. The court ruled that they cannot take part in the floor test.

Guwahati: The ordeal is far from over for Promod Boro-led Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday has ordered for a composite floor test by December 26, which means Promod Boro will have to prove his majority. Making things worse for Boro, the order has put a stay on the appointment of the nominated members, they will not be able to vote during the floor test and cannot participate in the election of the Chief Executive Member. The Court has barred the Council from taking any policy decision.
